Information About Online Transfer & Exceptions

Being able to transfer your vehicle registration online can save you a lot of time. Let’s take a look at when this is possible and what exceptions there are when a visit to the TMR (Transport & Main Roads) office is the only option.

As a buyer of a vehicle you have 14 days to transfer the vehicle into your name. Online transfer is possible if:

❖ you are transferring the vehicle into only one name and NOT if you wish to transfer it into more than one person’s name or to an organisation

❖ you have a Qld driver licence or customer reference number (with TMR) and NOT if you have a licence from an other state

❖ you do not wish to claim any exemptions (eg. paying vehicle registration duty or transfer fee, etc.) and NOT if you do need to do so

❖ you are not applying a concession to the registration and NOT if you do have a concession that you would like to add

❖ you have all the required information to provide online and it is accurate and NOT if some details do not match

To transfer your registration online you need to provide your Queensland driver licence number or customer reference number, the dutiable value, odometer reading and purpose of use. Transfer fees apply and you will need to pay the registration renewal if it is expired.

If you are transferring a boat registration you will need to provide the boat's storage method, place and postcode.

If the seller has lodged an application to transfer the registration online (or in person), you do not have to complete the transaction online if you do not want to. Instead, you can visit a TMR office near you.

The above information was referenced from the followed website link in order to provide you with the most accurate and up-to-date information.
